How does an ACC team lose 24-14 to Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tenn., in Week 2 but bounce back to win by a field goal in Death Valley over Clemson in Week 5? Call it a resurrection or a reversal of fortune but that's what the Terps did to win their fourth straight contest over a top 25 opponent last Saturday. The big change came in the fourth quarter when receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey took an end-around, sliced toward the middle of the field and raced 76 yards to Clemson's four-yard line to set up the score that cut the Tigers' lead to 17-13. Next up is Virginia, the ACC cellar dwellers. The Terps better not get caught looking ahead to a possible matchup of 5-1 teams against Wake Forest ...

Dining on a lineup of three push-over opponents in their first four games, the Wildcats are rounding into form as a trip to Alabama awaits their return from the cupcake circuit. The defense has been stout, allowing a total of 22 points thus far with three games that saw them surrender only one field goal or safety. Whether they are in shape to legitimately make a run in the SEC, though, will be decided Saturday. They will face a steady diet of Nick Saban's defensive pressure and a Crimson Tide offense that made Georgia's title hopes look slimmer than ever last Saturday.

Welcome back to the 26-119 rankings, fellas. After a few cups of coffee with the big boys, Skip Holtz's team watched the bottom fall out of those cups the last two weeks, first against N.C. State and most recently against Houston. The Cougars looked like the team on the rise in front of a sellout crowd in Greenville, N.C., holding the Pirates to 275 yards total offense as well as 1-of-13 on third down conversions in the 41-24 rout. Holtz's status as Hottest Coach in America is no longer, but at least he signed that contract extension through 2013 that will pay him up to $9.5 million.

There is no rest for last week's Cinderella. Looking to parlay their upset of USC into something bigger, the Beavers next play Utah, another ranked opponent, but this time they will not have the friendly confines of Reser Stadium rooting them along. Winless in two road games thus far, Oregon State will try to gain another upset in Salt Lake City in another Thursday-night billing.
