UC San Diego Sustainability Resource Center Fake Opening, 10 a.m.

Give UCSD points for creativity. Needing a way to gain support for a campus SRC, students decided to pretend the building was built and hold a fake opening trumpeting its potential benefits. The Chargers might want to consider that strategy to drum up support for a new football stadium.

SATURDAY

First Annual Ingenuity Exposition, MIT, 10 a.m

Innovators, investors, and entrepreneurs from around the world will gather to share their idea and inventions. After voting concludes in July, one invention on display at the expo will be honored with the 2008 Ingenious Award. My vote is for the A.C.E.. Checkmate Hockey Tool, a life-size dummy that teaches children how to body check.

World Science Festival, NYU

If MIT's Ingenuity Exposition isn't enough for you then hop on down to New York and hear some of the world's best and brightest talk about their work. NYU will host a number of events, including Saturday's talk on the science of Disney Imagineering.

Dillo Day 2008, Northwestern, 1 p.m.

Dillo Day's roots trace back to 1972 when a bunch of Northwestern students from Texas held a small celebration in honor of the armadillo. Over the years it's grown into a music-packed end-of-classes celebration held on the Lake Michigan lakefill. The big names appearing on Saturday include Third Eye Blind, Ted Leo, Broken Social Scene, and Common.

NCAA Men's Golf Championship Final Round, Purdue University

Clemson holds the overall lead after shooting even par in Thursday's second round. If the Tigers hope to win their first title since 2003 they'll have to hold off No. 1 USC, No. 5 UCLA, and defending champion Stanford.

SUNDAY

Odyssey of the Mind 2008 World Finals, University of Maryland

Can you build a weight bearing structure using only Balsa wood and glue? How about creating a humorous performance which puts forth a new theory about the extinction of the dinosaurs? The Odyssey of Mind competition has students from kindergarten through college working in teams to solve problems and show off their creativity. And did I mention the competition's mascot is a giant raccoon named Omer.

NCAA Women's College World Series, University of Oklahoma

Two teams will punch their tickets to the Championship Series before the day is done. One of them could be the Cinderella Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette. Over the last two weeks they beat ninth-seeded LSU in the Baton Rouge Regional and eighth-seeded Houston in the Super Regional. Then on Thursday they handed No. 1 Florida just its third loss of the season in the CWS opener.

2008 MTV Movie Awards, 8 p.m.

At some point during the evening mtvU will crown the winner of its 3rd annual "Best Filmmaker on Campus" contest. The lucky student will take home a shiny golden popcorn trophy and a $25,000 development deal with MTV Films.
